An Introduction to the Centre’s Operations

・  Academic Research Activities
Symposium on Japanese–Korean Relations An academic symposium held twice a year on the themes of culture, politics and economics relating to Japan and Korea. Each time it approaches dozens of researchers from Korea as well as other regions and undertakes discussions and report presentations.
Japanese-Korean Collaborative Research Group A Japanese-Korean collaborative research group founded on research funding from MEXT (The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology) and research based on “Politico-Sociological Research of Democratisation and Legal-Political Structures in Contemporary Korea”. A symposium style research group held twice a year in both Korea and Japan.
Monthly Research Group A research group relating to contemporary Korea held on the third Friday of every month (February, March, August and September are holidays). Each time it introduces research presentations by postgraduate students or by visiting researchers from Korea. Anyone who has matriculated to a postgraduate school is welcome to participate. Furthermore, participants are able to currently exchange academic information through a mailing list.
Translation Research Group A research group held each week with the aim of publishing translations.
Research Paper Publication Currently publishing two or three volumes a year of papers relating to the research of contemporary Korea.
Next Generation Researchers Workshop A workshop for young researchers of North and South Korea both in Japan and Korea itself, formed with the aim of the long-term promotion of Korean research and the formation of a rigorous Korean research community in East Asia.
・  Regional Activities
Public Lectures Lectures that invite renowned individuals in various fields relating to Korea, and aimed at students as well as non-students alike. Held about twice a year.
Korean Film Festival Korea through the visual medium of film. Each year a theme focussed on a particular actor is decided on and Korean film screenings, talks from the actor and a Korean film symposium are organised.
Culture Festival An event held once a year to introduce Korean culture such as music, art and traditional arts to a wide audience.
Japanese and Korean NGO Exchange Seminar. A seminar held once a year with the aim of communicative exchange between Japanese and Korean NGOs. Held between Japan and Korea.
・  Educational and Education Exchange Activities
RiCKS Contemporary Korea Research Support Research support which aims towards the development and patronage of young researchers of contemporary Korea whereby 300,000 yen is given each year to two individuals who have displayed outstanding research in the field. Entries are possible in Japanese, Korean or in both languages.
